  • What is this Ugandan bug?

Can anyone help me identify this bug. I live in Uganda and found it on a rock! It has almost like a trunk which it drank water through and it jumped!odd bug zoom small.jpg

  • Creature I haven?t seen before (5)

I saw this creature today at soil level; it appears to have less than a centipede’s number of legs – so some form of larva perhaps? I should be grateful for an opinion.

  • Creatures I haven't seen before (4)

I saw this small, active creature today in our local nature reserve and wonder if a name can be put to it.

  • Can someone please help identify this bug

We have found this beetle/catepillar-like bug in our flat about four times over the past three months. Photos attached.

Can anyone help identify it, so we can work out if we have a pest problem? We have found it on our ceramic tiles floor on all four occasions. We live in Edinburgh in case geographic location is a consideration, and our flat is on the fourth floor.

  • Bugs in the bedroom

    Hi,

This is my first time posting anything here, I am seeking help and advice about a crawling insect that has been identified as a Book Lice.

My husband and I have been fighting these insects fr the past 5 months. There were hundreds of them over all the surfaces in our bedroom. I first noticed them scurry across the pages of books that I had been reading. I do not keep books in my bedroom, I buy a book read it then give it to charity. The infestation has been so bad we have abandoned the bedroom. We have spent a small fortune getting in the "bug men" and now my husband is buying sprays off the Internet and inspecting the room every evening and spraying. The number have dropped to 3 or 4 per night now only found on the window sill. We have had every gap filled and now are considering getting a new window and frame fitted to the bedroom to maybe stop them getting in past the window seals. Isn't there anything that will get rid of these invaders? I would like to get my bedroom back. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • mystery insect in my house - NHM said to post it if found

    hi,

I have a top floor flat in a London square and have just seen on the NHM website that these insects, which I keep finding near enough every day in my house, are probably from the trees in there.  The NHM said to post if these insects are spotted as they are a mystery.

Has the Museum carried out yet tests on the bug's  body shape, form and DNA to see whether it is a newly discovered  species or if it is in fact Arocatus roeselii?

Here's a link that NHM posted in 2008 and so hopefully they now know more what it is.

Please help as I want to know if they bite/what puts them off entering the flat.

    Thanks!

  • Losing battle with unknown bug! Please help ID?

I've been battling an unknown bug now for 6 weeks (from mid December). I am disposing of around 5 a day from my bathroom and the adjoining room. I live in a downstairs flat in South Tyneside. I can't see where they are coming from but presume its either from behind the bath panel or wall cavities/skirting boards. I have so far used a full tin of expanding foam and I am on my second tube of silicon in a bid to seal every possible place they are coming from, but every day they still appear!

The picture with the edge of the toothpaste tube in shows scale (the black section of the toothpaste tube is 4mm). They seem to move very slowly when watched but will appear out of nowhere when I check for them. I think they have wings as I could have sworn one tried to fly when I went to remove it. I am presuming they are a beetle but really I have no idea?

    IMG_0870.JPG

    Hi,

My wife just found this in our bedroom, in a roof extension, under a box. What is it? And should I be worried. It has legs at the front and is moving!

    Many Thanks.

...m straying into other fields but it is actually a fairly painless way of telling livestock to stay put. An Electric Fence has been used to control animals for numerous years ever since the first examples were used way back in the 1930s. Installing an Electric Fence can save money for farmers compared to more rigid types of fencing that can prove to be rather expensive in larger fields. By installing an Electric Fence farmers can have effective means of controlling their livestock without having to upkeep and repair damaged fence panels. One of the problems with an Electric Fence is that the power might sometimes be interrupted causing the fence to fail but in general they tend to work very effectively. After an animal has touched the Electric Fence they will receive a shock and they tend to ...
